Prom Perfection

by Kelley Krueger March 26, 2012

Prom is near and the search for the perfect dress and updo begins! To help with the search, we’ve enlisted hair diva extraordinaire, Kelley Krueger, to show us how to create two great looks. Kelley is a hair stylist for the Bellezza Salon at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles and has worked with celebrity clients including Debra Messing, Daisy Fuentes, Kelly Osbourne, and Brook Shields.

Be a Braided Beauty

1. Start by parting your hair and tease the top of the back of your head.

2. Take a 1 inch thick section of hair and begin braiding. You can do a french braid OR if that is too difficult a regular braid works well.

3. Bobby pin the braid at a downward slant towards the back of your head. Make sure it is long enough that it would reach a ponytail.

4. Give yourself a ponytail. High or low. Both work. Be sure to apply spray shine and hairspray for a sleek finished look

5. Take the whole ponytail and wrap around your hair around its base. It's ok of hair falls out - remember you can always pin any loose ends.

6. Pin away! Be sure to use Bobbi Pins that match your hair color :)

Or Sleek and Sensual

1. First part your hair in desired area ...

2. Then take 1 inch thick sections of hair and wrap it around your curling wand. Typically curl in a backward motion away from the head.

3. Brush all curl out with a soft bristle brush.

4. Gather hair and spray. This look is ideal for shorter hair but looks beautiful with any length.

For each of the looks I used a mirror, elastic hair band, bobby pins (preferably ones that match your hair color), Remington TStudio Pearl Ceramic Styling Wand, and a soft bristle brush.

Happy styling :)

3 New Hairstyles to try for Spring 2012

by Kelly Glenn March 19, 2012

Spring Hair Trends

Now that all the hustle and bustle of the holidays are over --and everyone is beginning to take down their Christmas lights and decorations- there’s only one thing on my mind: spring!

I know, I know we’ve still got a few more months.. but I love my sunshine and warm weather.

Besides, who needs an excuse to get a head start on some of the crush-worthy hairstyles we saw on the runways during s/s 2012 last fall. Just think: once spring comes we’ll have them perfected and totally be ahead of the game.

Marc Jacbos, Michael Kors, Betsey Johnson, and Chanel Hair Trends from the Runway

This ‘do immediately stole my heart as soon as I spotted it on the runway at Marc by Marc Jacobs.

It’s a ponytail/bun hybrid and such a fun way to add some chic to your regular pony and so easy.Start out with a medium-height pony tail secured with an elastic. Spritz with some hairspray to tame any fly-a-ways. Then with a barrette fasten the ponytail creating the bun, while letting the ends hang loose. You might want to tease your hair first before securing the bun for some added volume.

Next ‘do is the fab woven messy braid from Michael Kors.

What’s gorg about this braid is the leather that is woven throughout –giving it a messy boho style. You could try this with leather cording (available at most craft stores) or even cute pieces of colorful fabric like the photo to the right.

To get the messy undone braid start out with a volume spray and tease the hair to give it some added texture. After you’ve braided and secured the hair, give some pieces a tug to loosen them.

The last spring style trend is the deep side part, shown here from Chanel and Betsey Johnson.

To get this look you want to part hair to the side while it’s still wet, brushing it over while it dries. Then pull the other side of your hair back and secure with bobby pins until it sets. From here you can try a number of different styles, like glam curls or a chignon.
