Ways To Protect Your Hair

by Remington Ready April 15, 2015

Beautiful style starts with healthy hair. To keep hair healthy, you have to protect it against damage from the environment and from styling. Here are a few of the most important tips to keep your hair healthy, smooth, and strong.

Avoid exposure to harsh weather

You might not think weather or a little sun could do much damage, but all that exposure can really take a toll! Excessive dirt, heat, pollution or sun can cause breakage and dry out hair. It can also have harsh effects on your scalp, even creating scalp conditions or infections (EW!). So be sure to cover your flowing locks during a day in the sun or a dusty area with a hat or scarf. Go ahead and take advantage of the giant sun hat trend. You could also try a UV protection spray or conditioner like the Ubuntu Oil Colour Fade Protection Oil from Ulta ($12.99).

Be gentle with wet hair

Okay, we all know wet hair breaks easily, but we had to say it anyway: DON’T MESS WITH WET HAIR. It’s way more vulnerable to breakage than dry hair. It all starts in the shower. Don’t scrub your hair too aggressively; massage your hair as if you were hand washing your delicates. Once out of the shower gently towel dry, but don’t twist hair. Use a wide tooth comb to detangle and you’re all set to style!

Condition your hair the right way

Conditioner is crucial to protecting your hair, along with making it look awesome. It’s the one hair product you should spend a little more on to get something that really does its job right. We recommend It’s A 10! Miracle Daily Conditioner from Target ($14.99), which also have UV protection! Apply conditioner to the bottom ¾ of your hair and make sure to work it into your strands gently. Also, as summer rolls around, try putting on some light conditioner before hitting the pool or beach.

Brush carefully

Your grandma might have told you to brush hair 100 strokes a day. And while it helps distribute oils, it can also damage your hair if it’s not done right. Use an ionic bristle for less frizz or a detangler brush if you need to. Even better, use a conditioning brush like the PROtect micro-conditioning styling brush ($10.99) for a healthy shine. Overall, just handle with care. You should know if you’re brushing too hard if you notice a lot of hair in your brush afterwards.

Use protective styling tools

Unless your natural hair is just the way you like it, chances are you can’t help using heat to dry or style it. So make sure your styling tools are being as protective as possible while you style. Keep the heat setting as low as possible to get the style you want.

Look for dryers with ceramic and ionic technology like the T|Studio PROtect Hair Dryer ($47.99). This dryer has a conditioning ring that conditions hair as you dry for a healthy finish. For flat irons or curling tools, try to find products with high ceramic content so heat is distributed equally, minimizing the risk of damaging your hair. The T|Studio PROtect Flat Iron ($82.99) has vapor infusion technology that actually conditions hair with a macadamia treatment while you straighten. That means smoother and healthier hair!

T|Studio PROtect Straightener: How To Get Straight, Sleek, Healthy-Looking Hair

by Remington Ready March 2, 2015

Hello my loves! Today's vid is on getting healthy, straight & sleek hair! It's a review/demo of the Remington PROtect flat iron, which I am absolutely in love with! I'm usually not a fan of straightening my hair because of the damage, however this flat iron just makes my hair feel so nourished and moisturized that I absolutely love it! If you have super curly or frizzy hair, this flat iron will get rid of all of that!

I feel that this iron works best with the vapor feature turned on, however you can use it without and get great results too. Remember that if you run out of the Macadamia Treatment, DISTILLED water is the right substitute. Regular tap water shouldn't be used.

You can purchase the PROtect in Target and Walmart stores beginning March 1st! You can't miss out on this high quality flat iron for the drugstore price.. I'm literally so in love, and I know you will be too!

Davines Oi Oil

Tresemme Keratin 7-Day Regimen Set

“I don’t always have the healthiest hair. It’s naturally curly, and I straighten it every day so it needs all the help it can get….so I don’t end up bald. This stuff works great for me!” -Stephanie

“It’s a 10! Leave-in conditioner instantly smooths flyaways and prevents static throughout the day. And a little bit goes a really long way so a bottle lasts a long time!” -Devon

4 Beauty Trends for 2015

by Remington Ready January 23, 2015

Sombré is the new ombré! It’s a softer, more subtle color fade and an easier way to mix up hair color without going too extreme! Instead of going from dark brunette to light blonde, the color fades from dark brunette to light brunette or blends in color by going from dark brunette to dark red. The sombré also blends better, using highlights to work the color in more naturally. This is usually done with the “balayage” technique where color is painted on by hand instead of using traditional foil. So if you’re ready for a sombré color update, look for stylists in your area that specialize in balayage!

Bold lip color is everywhere! But it’s out with the red and in with the new. The deep berry color is what we’re seeing most. Adding a rich elegance in darker shades, it varies with hints of either purple or pink. The key to wearing dark lipstick is the lip liner; make sure to have a defined edge if you’re trying this trend out! For more natural looks, try a rose color lipstick. This brings in the berry shades while keeping a more subtle and neutral tone.

For a berry color, we recommend "Raspberry" No7 Stay Perfect Lipstick or "Blissful Berry" Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Color.

For a rose color try "Plum" Botanics Lip Stain.

These waves are bringing the 40s back— more retro-fabulous than ever. For shoulder length cuts, it’s all about the deep side part, sweep over, and dramatic waves. We’ve seen many variations of this look on the runway and red carpet, but it’s just as fitting for everyday hair styling. Don’t worry about the fuss of using salon clips to set hair in a zig-zag wave pattern, just use a wide waving wand like the TStudio Pink Silk Waving Wand. Brush out the waves for a softer look and create a side part, slicking back the shorter side. Keep volume across the sweeping bangs and you’ll be looking fresh and classic with these retro waves.

Eyes are really popping with bright, fun colors! From blue and turquoise to red and orange, eye make-up is getting more intense. It’s used as an eye liner or even complete eye shadow, but we suggest the more subtle eye liner highlight. Put on normal black eyeliner on the top and bottom lids, then just accent on the outside of the black liner with a pop of color (we suggest blue to start off with). Focus more on the bottom lid and outside corner, or go all out and blend it into brightly colored eye shadow!

We recommend Revlon Colorstay Eye Liner or NYX Slide on Pencil for easy-to-apply color options.

Hat Hairstyles: Knotted Up-Do

by Remington Ready January 21, 2015

This up-do is more of a “low-do”, keeping the style below hat level! It’s Dutch-styled and unique, making you look like a skilled trendsetter without all the work.

Style Tip: If you have layered hair, pieces may fall out during the day. Just keep bobby pins handy to pin in any strays. It only adds to the look!

Tools: Bobby Pins

    1.  Start with natural hair, adding texture spray if needed.

    2.  Divide hair into four even sections.

    3.  Tie sections A and B together into a tight knot and secure with clip, then knot                sections C and D and clip.

    4.  Tie the center two strands, B and C, into a knot using a clip to hold sections A              and D in place.

    5.  Continue knotting each side and then the center until about 3-4” of ends are left.            Make sure to keep each knot tight!

    6.  Use bobby pins to secure the ends of the sections under the braided area.

    7.  Voila! Your knotted up-do is complete. Just add finishing spray as needed                   and throw on your hat! Pull the hat down so it’s just above the knotted hair.

Hat Hairstyles: Braided Pigtails

by Remington Ready January 16, 2015

Braided pigtails aren’t just for little girls anymore; it’s actually a super cute boho-chic braided style! It’s easy to do and the braids start low, so no need to worry about the hat getting in the way!

Style Tip: If you have a lot of layers, start the braids a little higher than right under the ear and keep it tighter as you braid.

Tools: Double Knit Elastics

    1.  Start with natural hair, and divide hair down the back of your head into two                    sections.

    2.  Begin on one side, dividing hair into three uneven sections. It’s best to have the            smallest section be from the back.

    3.  Braid the strands, keeping it tight for now. You can loosen them up later!

    4.  Repeat steps one and two on the other side.

    5.  Loosen up the braid to desired look. They may loosen up throughout the day, so            don’t make it too loose!

    6.  You’re all finished with this boho braid style! Just add finishing spray as needed            and top off with your winter hat. Pull it down so that it ends right where the braids          begin!
