Beard Tamers: Review of 3 New Remington Electric Shavers

by Christian Zaguirre August 27, 2012

The only times in life that we do genuinely desire a close shave is when we're talking non-metaphorically. Just about every brand out there promises to shave us back to pre-puberty smoothness, but Remington is one of the few names that we know we can usually trust. So here at GearCulture, much to our wives and girlfriends' consternation, we allowed our facial hair to go wild in order to test three of Remington's latest electric offerings to see if they cut the mustard – and facial hair, obviously.

Remington F3 ($30)

The Smooth: Like cell phones, electric shavers have thankfully come a long way in terms of size and not to mention maneuverability. The F3 boasts an independent flexing foil and pivoting neck which should ensure that it covers every contour of your face, and the speedy motor means a cleaner shave with less passes. Less passes means less irritation, which is not only great for those with sensitive skin, but it'll save you a fortune in moisturizer too.

The Stubble: Though the flex and pivot feature should have covered each and every contour, it didn't. Points are lost because it struggled around the neck and jaw lines, and there were a few stragglers left behind. The battery takes 16 hours to recharge too, which is not ideal if you're late for work.

The Final Verdict: For 30 bucks, you can't fault the F3 too much. Even though there were a few missed whiskers, the shave was close and smooth.

Remington F4 ($40)

The Smooth: All the features of the F3, with a cherry on top, the Remington F4 comes equipped with a pair of independent floating cutting heads which are extremely precise and hold the lines of the face admirably, definitely out-performing the F3 around the jaw.

The Stubble: The battery only lasts for a half hour which means lots or recharging, and though the shaver handled shorter whiskers well, it did miss a few of the longer hairs about the neck.

The Final Verdict: It's better than the F3, but personally we'd rather splash that extra bit of cash on the F5 (below). Ten dollars gets you a whole lot more.

Remington F5 ($50)

The Smooth: The F5's battery is by far the best of the three, and even Remington has undersold themselves here. They claim it takes a couple of hours to fully charge, but we always hit optimum energy in less than two. The built-in Interceptor Shaving Technology – that's the trimming blade for longer hair – ensured that no hairs were missed and that the shave was without a doubt the smoothest out of the three.

The Stubble: There's a five minute quick charge which is ideal for touch-ups, but needs to be longer for that motor to be whizzing at full capacity.

The Final Verdict: The absolute daddy of the Remington F series, even with a few days' worth of beard growth, the F5 delivers a smooth shaving experience and doesn't miss a hair. Fully charged, it'll even run for a whole hour which makes it ideal for those always on the go. F5? High Five!

The NEW Remington "S" Razor Review

by Melissa Angert May 14, 2012

As founder and editor of All Things Chic, I have a lot of beauty products arriving on my doorstep. I've tested it all. Sometimes its great - sometimes I discover what not to use. So I was totally game to try out the Remington Women's S™ Razor and Shaving Gels.

They looked great - the Shaving Gels smelled fabulous and the "S" Razor had a cool ergonomic shaping. But as soon as I opened the package, I knew this was something new and different.  The "S" Razor handle brew me away. The soft-flex hinge and soft-grip handle was like nothing I've seen. I gave it a try and instantly loved it. This is my new razor - I threw out my old razor that very day and you will find the Remington "S" Razor in my shower from now on!!

IPL Hair Removal at Home!

by Remington Ready May 7, 2012

I'm sure you've heard of the Remington i-LIGHT Pro by now, but just in case I'll give you a quick overview. The Remington i-LIGHT Pro is a great little Intense Pulsed Light device that gives you long term hair removal for up to  6 months#!

Unlike most at-home hair removal methods, IPL doesn't cut, burn or pull out hair, but instead works below the skin's surface to disable active hairs and prevent new ones from growing.  That means you get professional-quality results in the privacy and comfort of your own home for a fraction of the cost of getting in-office laser hair removal.  Pretty cool!

We had our friend and self-proclaimed laser hair removal "Queen", Vera Sweeney of Ladyandtheblog.com, try it out and see how it compares to her in office treatments.  Here's what she had to say:

Video Correction - The Remington i-LIGHT Pro is FDA *Cleared*

#Individual results will vary. In clinical testing, on average, participants had 47.8% fewer hairs six months after just three treatments, similar to results observed from professional hair removal systems.

Our Curl Crush

by Remington Ready February 20, 2012

Curl Crush

Who isn't after those luscious curls seen on stars and in magazines all the time? While practice makes perfect with killer curls, one thing that helps is a curling wand! For those of you that aren't familiar with the tool, a curling wand is a clipless curling iron. One of the favorites among the Remington Team and our fans is the TStudio Pearl Ceramic Styling Wand. The beauty of this tool is that its cone design can create a variety of curls without the annoying clap mark that some curling irons leave, giving you with a more natural look. It also has crushed pearl infused barrel, leaving hair shinier and smoother. Trends and styles come and go, but smooth and silky hair is always in style!

Here's our secret to creating crush worthy beachy curls with the Pearl Styling Wand:

What you will need: protective spray/argan oil, duckbill clip, Remington TStudio Pearl Ceramic Styling Wand, light holding hairspray.

1. Apply protective spray or argan oil to the ends of your hair.

2. Part your hair from ear to ear and pin up the top portion of your hair with a duckbill clip. You will start curling at the bottom and work your way up. If you have very thick hair, you may want to portion off smaller sections.

3. Put the included heat protective glove on your free hand.

4. Point the tip of the wand towards the ground. Starting at the barrel's base and working towards the tip, wrap sections of hair away from your face. Tight curls = thinner sections, loose curls = thicker sections.

5. Once the bottom portion is done, make another part through hair from upper temple to upper temple, pin up the top portion with the duckbill clip and curl. Once the middle section is curled, unpin the top section of hair and curl*.

6. Once your hair has cooled, soften the curls by gently breaking them apart with your fingers. To finish - add hairspray!

*Insider tip: for va-va-volume, back comb the last section of your hair before curling it.

DIY Golden Globe Red Carpet Looks

Red Carpet Breakdown Tina Fey and Michelle Pfeiffer

Last night's 2012 Golden Globe Awards were not only full of show stopping performances, but breathtaking new looks! Celebrity stylist, Richard Marin, is sharing how he styled two of Hollywood's leading ladies - Tina Fey and Michelle Pfeiffer.

For the 2012 Golden Globes, I went for simple, beautiful blown-out movable hair for Tina Fey.

1. I began my blow dry by applying Creme for Style by Oribe on damp hair.

2. I then used Remington's T|Studio Pearl Ceramic Professional AC Hair Dryer with a bore bristle round brush to complete the blow-out. Combining the three products gave me the ultimate shine and locked in hair that holds the memory of a blow dry shape, but still allows movement.

3. After blow drying, I sprayed Royal Blowout by Oribe on Tina's blow dried hair.

4. Next I used Remington's new Style Therapy: Keratin Therapy 1 ½" Clip-Free Curling Iron. This sealed in shine, and gave a soft bend in the hair and also blocked out any humidity.

5. To finish I flipped the hair upside down and sprayed Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray by Oribe, flipped hair back into place, and off she went!

To create Michelle Pfeiffer's updo...

1. I sprayed Maximista Thickening Spray by Oribe and flipped her hair forward and blow dried with Remington's T|Studio Pearl Ceramic Professional AC Hair Dryer until hair was completely dry. This gave me maximum volume!

2. I then took 3x4 inch sections of the hair and sprayed Soft Lacquer Heat Styling Spray by Oribe and used Remington's Style Therapy: Keratin Therapy 1 ½" Clip-Free Curling Iron.

3. Next, I pinned my curls in place until they cooled off. Once cooled, remember to remove pins and shake your hair, A LOT.

4. To give Michelle's hair all over amazing texture, I sprayed Oribe's Dry Texturizing Spray.

5. I pulled her hair back into a low, loose ponytail held with a hair-safe elastic band and double looped the ponytail to create a loose bun.

6. I pinned loose pieces of hair and also pull out pieces of hair around the face to give it a carefree undone look.

7. To finish the style, I spritzed a mist of Superfine Hair Spray by Oribe and she was ready!

Richard Marin’s 2012 Golden Globe Red Carpet Predictions

by Remington Ready January 12, 2012

Tina Fey - Award Worthy

Sunday marks the official start to award season with the Golden Globes and we couldn't be more excited! The stars, the fashion, the hair - what's not to love? Celebrity stylist, Richard Marin, is making his predictions for the upcoming red carpet - check it out:

We can't wait to what Richard does on Sunday! To create your own award-worthy hair, take a look at this tutorial for Richard's sleek chignon bun worn by our favorite funny gal, Tina Fey, at last year's SAG Awards.

1. Apply a straightening balm to damp hair and blow dry with the Remington T|Studio Pearl Ceramic Professional AC Hair Dryer. Be sure to blow dry bangs at an angle to achieve the swooping effect!

2. Sprits a heat protective spray throughout your hair and curl ends with the Remington T|Studio Pearl Styling Wand, for movement and texture.

3. Backcomb the crown of your head and slowly pull hair back to a low side ponytail.

4. Twist hair around the ponytail base into a bun and place bobby pins. Don't forget the hairspray!

Chic, sleek, and simple! Remember to catch Monday's post for a breakdown of the red carpet looks Richard creates for Tina Fey and Michelle Pfieffer at Sunday's Golden Globes.
